Shopping

Whether you’re shopping for furniture and bedding or bikes and toys, getting the best price on the things that you want and need is important. There are several ways to make sure that you get deep discounts on everything you buy. Never pay full retail price again!

Shopping Secrets

Learn the secrets of shopping that will ensure that you always walk out of the store having snagged the very lowest price available.

Haggle: Pretty much everything is negotiable. Don’t believe me? Try it. Even regular retail stores will often deduct something off of the price if you ask. Just in the few months, my family and friends have saved $150 off of a new dryer, $45 each off of two new bikes, and got a complete set of high quality bedding for free with the purchase of a new mattress.

Use Coupon Codes: Before you do any shopping online, make sure to do your research. You may just find a coupon code that can be used to give you a discount or even free shipping on your purchase. Combine the offer with a clearance sale, and you’ll get your item for pennies on the dollar.

Consider Floor Models: Items that are out on display have the most wiggle room when it comes to saving money. This is especially true for electronics, large appliances and furniture. Offer to take the display piece off of their hands, and you could wind up with charge of 50 percent less than one that is new in the box. Be sure to check the condition and warranty of course before you buy.

Shopping at Christmas

Christmas shopping is one of the best times to save money. That is because the stores offer plenty of sales to get you to do all of your gift shopping in one place. You’ll find plenty of Black Friday discounts, after Christmas clearance events and new promotions each week during the season.

Don’t limit your purchases to gifts only, though when you are shopping. Take advantage of the amazing prices to stock your own home. Replace worn furniture or small appliances, re-stock your wardrobe with winter wear, and grab great deals on other items that you’ll need throughout the coming year.

Also look for rock bottom holiday merchandise that can be incorporated into your home in other ways. A set of red bowls could be used for everyday or for Valentine’s Day, for example.

Good Tip: Saving money is important – especially if you have a lot of expenses like bills to pay, loans to pay off, and all the other things that drain your bank account. Figuring out a way to save money can feel tedious to some, and like a punishment to others. U.S. News suggests that you try one of these money saving challenges. The “No Eating Out for a Month” Challenge This one is self-explanatory. The goal is to avoid eating out for an entire month. This might be super easy for people who enjoy making meals at home. People who really enjoy dining out, or ordering food to be sent to their home, may struggle with this one. It’s worth a try because spending money on take-out is more expensive than buying groceries. The Pantry Challenge This one is a variation of the “No Eating Out for a Month” challenge. The goal is to use up all of your groceries before you buy more. It forces you to try and remember why you bought a food or beverage that you don’t know what to do with, and gives you the opportunity to find a way to use it. The one exemption to this challenge is the foods that have expired. Don’t eat them! Throw them in the trash. The “No Spend” Challenge Make a goal to avoid spending money during an entire weekend. The only exemption in this challenge is that you are allowed to pay bills. This challenge is interesting because it requires creativity. You must be creative and find workarounds for problems that you would typically solve by spending money. You may have a different outlook on spending after finishing this challenge.
