Bob’s Red Mill uses time-honored techniques and the highest quality natural ingredients.  They offer one of the largest lines of organic, whole grain, foods in the United States.  Bob’s Red Mill also has a line of gluten free offerings that are safely segregated away from the areas where they other products are made and are tested in special gluten free “clean room facilities”.  Bob’s Red Mill makes a wide variety of flours & meals, cereals, granola, bread mixes, entrees and gluten free products.  You can also find grains, beans, seeds, oats, baking aids, and more.  According to their website, their prices range between around $3.00 to about $8.00.

Foods that are organic were grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, or ionizing radiations.  Organic foods are required to be GMO free.  Foods that are gluten free are not made with any ingredients that include wheat or gluten.  This means gluten free foods are safe for people who have celiac disease or a gluten intolerance or allergy to eat.  Bob’s Red Mill uses gluten free oats that come from specialized farms that are located in Saskatchewan, Canada.  Bob’s Red Mill has headquarters in Milwaukie, Oregon.  There is a “Bob’s Red Mill Baking Book” that is very popular. Van’s Foods

Van’s Foods creates products that are made from natural ingredients.  They make waffles, french toast sticks, pancakes, muffin crowns, English muffins and hot cereals.  Some of their waffles and french toast sticks are wheat free and gluten-free.  Some of their products are also lactose free.  They have a line of organic products.  Some of their foods are multigrain, contain 8 whole grains, or are made with Power Grains (which contain protein).  The also have a lite version of their waffles.

Foods that are labeled as organic are grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, or ionizing radiation.  Organic foods must be GMO free.  Van’s wheat free and gluten-free waffles, french toast sticks, and pancakes are free of gluten, dairy (milk), and egg.  Those products are Certified Gluten Free by the Gluten Free Certification Organization (GFCO).  Van’s does not sell their products through their website.  This means Van’s has safe gluten-free kids products.   This means that the prices might vary a bit depending on which grocery store you purchase them at.  Van’s Foods is based in Southern California.

Bubbie’s Pickles

Bubbie’s is known for their jars of pickles that have been made with a special blend of spices.  Their pure Kosher Dills are crunchy, and made with no vinegar or preservatives.  They are fermented and cured in a natural way.  Their Pure Kosher Dill Relish contains no sugar or vinegar.  The Bread and Butter Chips are crunchy and have been pasteurized, so no refrigeration is required.  Bubbie’s also makes Old Fashioned Sauerkraut, Pickled Green Tomatoes, and Mustard.  Their Pickled Herring Filets are loaded with Omega-3 fatty acids.  Bubbie’s does not sell their foods through their website, so the price might vary depending on where you buy them from.  However, they do have an online store that includes caps, t-shirts, pickle print ties, and more!

Bubbie’s uses natural ingredients.  For example, their Old Fashioned Sauerkraut is made with only cabbage, water, and salt.  Their Beet and Prepared Horseradishes are an all natural source of vitamin C – the vitamin that is said to help keep colds away.  Omega-3 fatty acids are the “good fats” that help with cholesterol.  The lack of sugar in their Pure Kosher Dill Relish makes it a healthy choice for people who are diabetic.  Bubbie’s is headquartered in San Francisco, California.  You can send them a letter through their website or in the mail.  The word Bubbie is a Yiddish term of endearment.  It means “grandmother”.

Arrowhead Mills

Arrowhead Mills has been one of America’s most trusted organic baking brands for the past 50 years.  Their foods are locally sourced, organic, and healthy.  They make baking and bread mixes, dessert mixes, and a line of gluten free cake mixes, cookie mixes, all purpose mixes, a brownie mix and even a gluten free pizza crust.  They have a Pour ‘n Bake Pumpkin Pie Filling.  They have bags of several different varieties of beans, bags of grains (from quinoa to wheat bran and more), brown rice, and seeds.  Their breakfast line includes cold cereals, hot cereals, and pancake and waffle mixes.  Arrowhead Mills also makes nut butters, stuffing mixes, and sides.

Organic foods are grown without the use of potentially harmful pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, or synthetic chemicals.  Organic foods are GMO free.  Foods that are gluten free do not contain wheat or other ingredients that have gluten.  This makes those foods safe for people who have celiac disease or a gluten allergy or intolerance.  According to their website, their products are between about $5.00 and $9.00.  Arrowhead Mills is a brand of The Hain Celestial Group, Inc., which is headquartered in Melville, New York.

Alexia

Alexia makes foods that are all natural, gourmet inspired, and delicious.  They make artisan breads, baked appetizers, oven baked french fries, and potatoes served in a variety of ways.  This includes hashed browns, mashed potatoes, and different flavors of oven fries.  Those who enjoy sweet potatoes can try them as crinkle cut fries, Julianne fries, waffle cut fries, as spicy sweet potatoes, or as sweet potato puffs.  Alexia also makes a variety of sides that include potatoes and vegetables saute.   Their website doesn’t list prices of their foods, but it does say you can find them “in your grocer’s freezer”.

Alexia’s organic products are certified by Oregon Tilth.  Organic foods are grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, or ionizing radiation.  They are GMO free.  According to the Alexia website, their potato products are Kosher (except for their mashed potatoes and potato appetizers).  Their products are not necessarily vegan, because some contain dairy ingredients.  ConAgra Foods, Inc., acquired  Alexia Foods in the 2008.  ConAgra Foods has headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska.

Annie Chun’s

Annie Chun’s makes all natural Asian cuisine.  Their foods are made from the highest quality ingredients, and contain no MSG and no preservatives.  Annie Chun’s makes Freshpak Noodles that can be fully cooked in five minutes. They have frozen soups, fresh cooked ramen noodles, and microwavable soup bowls, Asian noodle bowls, and rice express fast meals.  They also have some quick Asian meal starts, gourmet Asian sauces, Asian noodles, seaweed snacks, sushi wraps, frozen potstickers and mini-wontons and Gochujang sauce.  It is easy to see from their website if a food is gluten-free, non-dairy, vegan, vegetarian, low fat, or if it contains no fish.

Foods that are gluten free do not contain wheat or other ingredients that have gluten in them.  Annie Chun’s doesn’t specifically make gluten free kids products, but does have other foods that are gluten free.  It is nice that their website points out foods that are non-dairy, and that do not contain fish, because this helps people with allergies to avoid those foods.  Vegetarian foods do not contain any meat, and vegan foods do not contain any animal products at all.  According to their website, their prices range between about $2.00 and a little over $7.00.  Annie Chun’s is owned by CJ Foods, which has its American headquarters in Los Angeles, California.

Good Tip: Saving money is important – especially if you have a lot of expenses like bills to pay, loans to pay off, and all the other things that drain your bank account. Figuring out a way to save money can feel tedious to some, and like a punishment to others. U.S. News suggests that you try one of these money saving challenges. The “No Eating Out for a Month” Challenge This one is self-explanatory. The goal is to avoid eating out for an entire month. This might be super easy for people who enjoy making meals at home. People who really enjoy dining out, or ordering food to be sent to their home, may struggle with this one. It’s worth a try because spending money on take-out is more expensive than buying groceries. The Pantry Challenge This one is a variation of the “No Eating Out for a Month” challenge. The goal is to use up all of your groceries before you buy more. It forces you to try and remember why you bought a food or beverage that you don’t know what to do with, and gives you the opportunity to find a way to use it. The one exemption to this challenge is the foods that have expired. Don’t eat them! Throw them in the trash. The “No Spend” Challenge Make a goal to avoid spending money during an entire weekend. The only exemption in this challenge is that you are allowed to pay bills. This challenge is interesting because it requires creativity. You must be creative and find workarounds for problems that you would typically solve by spending money. You may have a different outlook on spending after finishing this challenge.
