White and red vinegarEvery house should have a bulk container filled with vinegar. There truly are hundreds of uses for it in your home. You can use it to clean, deodorize, polish silver, and so much more! In researching vinegar a bit more, I found some interesting ways to use it in your health and beauty routine! Instead of choosing to buy an expensive beauty product or health remedy, give vinegar a whirl and see how it works!

To Control Dandruff

Instead of using a chemical-ridden dandruff shampoo, try rising your hair with 2 cups of apple cider vinegar mixed with 2 cups of cold water after each shampooing. You can also try applying 3 tablespoons of vinegar onto your hair and massaging into the scalp before you shampoo. Let it sit for a few minutes, rinse, and wash your hair as usual.

To Condition Your Hair

A great way to breathe some life into your limp hair is to mix 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 3 egg whites. Rub the mixture into your hair and keep covered for 30 minutes with a shower cap. After 30 minutes, shampoo and rinse as usual.

To Protect Your Hair in the Pool

Does your blond hair turn green whenever you spend time in a chlorinated pool? Fifteen minutes before jumping in, rub ¼ cup of cider vinegar into your hair and let it sit.

To Make Nail Polish Last Longer

Dampen your nails with some vinegar on a cotton ball and let it try before polishing your nails. This will make your nail polish last longer.

To Soothe Sunburn, Insect Bites, or Rashes

If your skin was exposed to the sun for a bit too long, soak a cotton ball or soft cloth in white or cider vinegar and apply to the sunburn. This treatment works best if you apply it before your skin starts to sting. You can use this same technique to stop the itch accompanied with an insect bite or exposure to poison ivy or poison oak.

As Part of Your Skin Care Regimen

Vinegar has been used as a toner for centuries. After cleansing your skin with your favorite face wash, simply rub a vinegar-soaked cotton ball on your face. It’ll help further cleanse and tighten your skin.

To Get Rid of Age or Sun Spots

Have any of those pesky brown spots on your skin that come from age and sun exposure? Before dropping a ton of money at the dermatologist on a special treatment, give vinegar a try. Soak a cotton ball in full-strength apple cider vinegar and apply it to the spots for 10 minutes at least twice a day. You should start to see the spots fade or disappear within a few weeks!

Good Tip: Saving money is important – especially if you have a lot of expenses like bills to pay, loans to pay off, and all the other things that drain your bank account. Figuring out a way to save money can feel tedious to some, and like a punishment to others. U.S. News suggests that you try one of these money saving challenges. The “No Eating Out for a Month” Challenge This one is self-explanatory. The goal is to avoid eating out for an entire month. This might be super easy for people who enjoy making meals at home. People who really enjoy dining out, or ordering food to be sent to their home, may struggle with this one. It’s worth a try because spending money on take-out is more expensive than buying groceries. The Pantry Challenge This one is a variation of the “No Eating Out for a Month” challenge. The goal is to use up all of your groceries before you buy more. It forces you to try and remember why you bought a food or beverage that you don’t know what to do with, and gives you the opportunity to find a way to use it. The one exemption to this challenge is the foods that have expired. Don’t eat them! Throw them in the trash. The “No Spend” Challenge Make a goal to avoid spending money during an entire weekend. The only exemption in this challenge is that you are allowed to pay bills. This challenge is interesting because it requires creativity. You must be creative and find workarounds for problems that you would typically solve by spending money. You may have a different outlook on spending after finishing this challenge.
