Natural Cleaning Tips: How to Save Money and Keep Your Home CleanKeeping your home clean is worrisome in itself. Tack on the added worry of realizing what is actually in many commercial cleaners along with the cost of keeping your cleaning supplies stocked, and the anxiety continues to build.

Most homes include special cleaners for every room of the house. The truth is there are several natural, cheap DIY cleaning recipes that require only a few ingredients. The best news is products like vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice and fragrant essential oils can be used in any room of the house. When possible, buy these items in bulk to save even more money!

Vinegar – Vinegar acts as an all-purpose cleaner. It can be used in every room of the house. Mix equal parts vinegar and water in a spray bottle to clean and disinfect your countertops, stovetops and appliances. You can also use vinegar to mop your floors, clean your toilets, and remove soap scum from showers and tubs. Mix 2 tablespoons of vinegar into a spray bottle full of water for a solution that will keep your glass and windows sparkling! Don’t worry about the smell; it fades when the vinegar dries.

Baking Soda – Baking soda is popular for its deodorizing properties. Place an open box of it in your fridge or sprinkle in your trash can, dirty laundry, or smelly gym bag. You can also make a paste out of baking soda and water to clean your oven or get rid of dried-on messes that sit on your countertop.

Lemon Juice and Citrus – Lemon juice has natural bleaching properties, so it can be used to get rid of carpet stains. The acidic quality of lemons also makes it great for removing soap scum. Try cutting a lemon in half, sprinkling baking soda on the cut edge, and using the lemon to scrub dishes or countertops. You can also throw used lemons, oranges, or limes down your garbage disposal while it runs to clean it out and deodorize your sink.

Essential Oils – Essential oils such as lavender or citrus can be used to make your house smell great. Instead of opting for chemical-laced air fresheners, try mixing them into any of the cleaning solutions listed above. You can also boil water with essential oils to keep your house smelling great. The possibilities are endless!
