Learn how you can add coconut oil to your beauty routine! While shopping for the latest and greatest over-the-counter beauty secret at the store is fun, it can make a huge dent in your budget. Plus, most commercial beauty products are packed with chemicals that are slowly proving to be unsafe. There are plenty of natural products we can use to keep our skin hydrated, tame our frizzy hair, and much more! Better yet, DIY beauty is usually cheaper!

Coconut oil is a product that is not only becoming popular in cooking, but it’s also popping up in beauty routines too. Here are a few ways you can use coconut oil in your own routine:

How to Use Coconut Oil in your Beauty Routine

To Moisturize

Coconut oil is extremely hydrating for the skin. It’s great for dry hands. If you cook with coconut oil, use your hands to scoop out the oil you need (it’s in a creamy, solid form before it’s heated). Plop the necessary amount into your pan, and rub the rest through your palms for silky smooth hands. You can also use it on your face as an overnight moisturizer or eye cream. If this is too greasy for you, search for natural skin products that use coconut oil as a base.

To Tame Wild Locks

Do you battle with frizzy hair any time there’s a lick of moisture outside? Coconut oil might just be your secret weapon! Coconut oil repels water and coats your hair shaft to keep water from affecting it. Before heading outside, rub a little coconut oil in your palms and run your hands through your hair. You can also run coconut oil through your hair while in the shower to condition your locks. Let it sit and rinse out for silky smooth tresses!

To Remove Eye Makeup

Instead of buying some eye makeup remover, use coconut oil instead! It removes even the clingiest of mascara residue to keep your eyes looking fresh for your next application! As you rub the coconut oil on your under eye area, you’ll also be hydrating that delicate skin, which often is one of the first areas to show signs of aging.

In a Body Scrub

Making an all-natural salt or sugar scrub at home is super easy! Exfoliation is an essential step in keeping your skin smooth and glowing! Most DIY scrubs call for an oil base. Why not give coconut oil a try!

To Hydrate Lips

Keep your lips kissable with coconut oil! Try rubbing a little on your lips before bed for smooth lips in the morning. Since coconut oil isn’t exactly easy to throw in your purse, try purchasing some small jars at your craft store. Fill with a little coconut oil and take with you for soft lips on the go!

There are tons of other uses for coconut oil. What’s your favorite?

Good Tip: Saving money is important – especially if you have a lot of expenses like bills to pay, loans to pay off, and all the other things that drain your bank account. Figuring out a way to save money can feel tedious to some, and like a punishment to others. U.S. News suggests that you try one of these money saving challenges. The “No Eating Out for a Month” Challenge This one is self-explanatory. The goal is to avoid eating out for an entire month. This might be super easy for people who enjoy making meals at home. People who really enjoy dining out, or ordering food to be sent to their home, may struggle with this one. It’s worth a try because spending money on take-out is more expensive than buying groceries. The Pantry Challenge This one is a variation of the “No Eating Out for a Month” challenge. The goal is to use up all of your groceries before you buy more. It forces you to try and remember why you bought a food or beverage that you don’t know what to do with, and gives you the opportunity to find a way to use it. The one exemption to this challenge is the foods that have expired. Don’t eat them! Throw them in the trash. The “No Spend” Challenge Make a goal to avoid spending money during an entire weekend. The only exemption in this challenge is that you are allowed to pay bills. This challenge is interesting because it requires creativity. You must be creative and find workarounds for problems that you would typically solve by spending money. You may have a different outlook on spending after finishing this challenge.
