This shopping trip was a little bit tricky because I was buying A LOT of produce. That being said I did get some awesome deals!  I went to a local grocery store that does not double coupons.  I try to go to this store as often as possible because they support local farmers!  The only catch is that they do not double coupons and a few of their items can be a little more expensive.  As long as you shop the sales and the produce department you can find great savings!  This trip I purchased $226.44 worth of product for $69.08!  That is a 71% savings and a very successful day. Here are the items that I purchased:

6lbs of Roma Tomatoes

1 English Cucumber

1 Butternut Squash

5lbs  Red and Yellow Onions

1 Bunch Green Onions

2 Bunches Cilantro

4 Jalapenos

1 Cantaloupe

1 Bunch Radishes

1 Bunch Parsley

3 lbs Cherries

6 Jumbo globe artichokes

1 Eggplant

12 Boxes of Cake Mix

6 Packs 2% Kraft Shredded Cheese

5 Cans Enchilada Sauce

5 Pillsbury Grand’s

1 pk Mission Tortillas

1 XL Tapatillo Sauce

6 Loaves Wheat Bread

1 Box Band Aids

1 Candy Bar

3 pk Frozen Waffles

1 pk Frozen Breakfast Sandwiches

1 pk Frozen Rosemary Ciabatta Rolls

2 pks Frozen Veggies

1 Gillette Body Wash

6 Yogurts

2pk Instant Mashed Potatoes

1 Weber Seasoning

Total: $226.44

I paid: $69.08

Saved: 71%

I hope this encourages you to save big at your regular grocery store on healthy items!  I have also taken up freezing things like bread and salsa so I can stock up on the best deals.  Not only does it save us tons of money but it is convenient to be able to pull meals out of the freezer (no dishes!). I hope this encourages all of you small towners that do not have stores that double coupons.  With the right planning you can save big anywhere!

Good Tip: Saving money is important – especially if you have a lot of expenses like bills to pay, loans to pay off, and all the other things that drain your bank account. Figuring out a way to save money can feel tedious to some, and like a punishment to others. U.S. News suggests that you try one of these money saving challenges. The “No Eating Out for a Month” Challenge This one is self-explanatory. The goal is to avoid eating out for an entire month. This might be super easy for people who enjoy making meals at home. People who really enjoy dining out, or ordering food to be sent to their home, may struggle with this one. It’s worth a try because spending money on take-out is more expensive than buying groceries. The Pantry Challenge This one is a variation of the “No Eating Out for a Month” challenge. The goal is to use up all of your groceries before you buy more. It forces you to try and remember why you bought a food or beverage that you don’t know what to do with, and gives you the opportunity to find a way to use it. The one exemption to this challenge is the foods that have expired. Don’t eat them! Throw them in the trash. The “No Spend” Challenge Make a goal to avoid spending money during an entire weekend. The only exemption in this challenge is that you are allowed to pay bills. This challenge is interesting because it requires creativity. You must be creative and find workarounds for problems that you would typically solve by spending money. You may have a different outlook on spending after finishing this challenge.
