The way we dress during the Covid-19 pandemic is quite different than how we dressed before it. Now is a good time to re-assess your clothing options and make necessary changes. You might be able to save money on clothing.

Working Remotely

Those who work remotely may need to attend some online meetings. You might be able to use the workplace appropriate shirts and sweaters that you used to wear while in the office. It is a good idea to have at least a few pairs of slacks. Your online co-workers probably won’t see them – unless you have to get up to tend to a child or pet.

Some people lost or gained wait during lockdown. Your professional clothes might not fit anymore. You can save money by shopping clearance sales or end-of-season sales. Make sure to review the store’s return policy before you make a purchase.

Take Good Care of Your Clothes

Reader’s Digest says that washing your clothing after each wear may result in over-washing some items and causing them to wear out prematurely. Reader’s digest also reports that hot water won’t necessarily get clothes cleaner, but it can damage some fabrics or cause some stains to become permanent.

It’s time to reconsider how you do your laundry. Using less hot water might help lower your heating bill. You can also save money by using less detergent each wash. Doing so can make your clothes last longer.

Consider Thrift Stores

Do you live in an area where the shops are open? Thrift stores are good place to shop for clothing (and other things) for very little money. Before you go, call the store and find out if they let customers try on clothing. If they don’t, then you should ask about their return policy. Make sure to wash the clothing you buy at the thrift store before you wear it.

Good Tip: Saving money is important – especially if you have a lot of expenses like bills to pay, loans to pay off, and all the other things that drain your bank account. Figuring out a way to save money can feel tedious to some, and like a punishment to others. U.S. News suggests that you try one of these money saving challenges. The “No Eating Out for a Month” Challenge This one is self-explanatory. The goal is to avoid eating out for an entire month. This might be super easy for people who enjoy making meals at home. People who really enjoy dining out, or ordering food to be sent to their home, may struggle with this one. It’s worth a try because spending money on take-out is more expensive than buying groceries. The Pantry Challenge This one is a variation of the “No Eating Out for a Month” challenge. The goal is to use up all of your groceries before you buy more. It forces you to try and remember why you bought a food or beverage that you don’t know what to do with, and gives you the opportunity to find a way to use it. The one exemption to this challenge is the foods that have expired. Don’t eat them! Throw them in the trash. The “No Spend” Challenge Make a goal to avoid spending money during an entire weekend. The only exemption in this challenge is that you are allowed to pay bills. This challenge is interesting because it requires creativity. You must be creative and find workarounds for problems that you would typically solve by spending money. You may have a different outlook on spending after finishing this challenge.
