Finding Clearance Items

Sometimes locating the ever-elusive clearance item can be a little tricky. But don’t give up, they’re out there, you just need to know where to look. I have 3 golden rules for locating clearance items.

  1. Be patient. Move slowly through the aisles so as not to miss any inconspicuous clearance racks.
  2. But be quick. The lower the price, the quicker the clearance item moves. Catch it before it’s gone!
  3. Be informed. In other words, know when the price is really right. You don’t want to fill your cart with not-so-great clearance price items. A good way to make sure you are actually getting a good deal is to keep track of regular prices. This way, you’ll recognize a price cut when you see one. You might want to print out a list of the best stock up prices to keep in your purse too!

Aside from my 3 golden rules, I recommend looking at the back of the store and the end of the aisles for clearance items. These are a couple of the most common places to find clearance sales. As always, when in doubt, ask a sales associate. They (should) be more than happy to direct you to the clearance racks!

Combining Clearance with Coupons

Everyone knows clearance sales are a great way to find amazing deals. But did you know you can deepen your savings and score even better deals by combining clearance sales with coupons? If you’ve got a coupon for a clearance sale, combine the savings! Some stores may have restrictions, so check your store’s coupon policy or check with a store employee for specific details on combining clearance sales with coupons.

What Items Have Clearance Sales?

There’s really no one answer to this question. Anything can go on clearance. Seasonal items, such as clothes and holiday stuff, are the most reliable clearance items. You always know they will go on clearance after the season or holiday has passed. However, you can also find grocery and household clearance items if you stay on the lookout. My favorite thing to buy on clearance is clothes – I never pay full price for clothes anymore! What is your favorite clearance item?

Good Tip: Saving money is important – especially if you have a lot of expenses like bills to pay, loans to pay off, and all the other things that drain your bank account. Figuring out a way to save money can feel tedious to some, and like a punishment to others. U.S. News suggests that you try one of these money saving challenges. The “No Eating Out for a Month” Challenge This one is self-explanatory. The goal is to avoid eating out for an entire month. This might be super easy for people who enjoy making meals at home. People who really enjoy dining out, or ordering food to be sent to their home, may struggle with this one. It’s worth a try because spending money on take-out is more expensive than buying groceries. The Pantry Challenge This one is a variation of the “No Eating Out for a Month” challenge. The goal is to use up all of your groceries before you buy more. It forces you to try and remember why you bought a food or beverage that you don’t know what to do with, and gives you the opportunity to find a way to use it. The one exemption to this challenge is the foods that have expired. Don’t eat them! Throw them in the trash. The “No Spend” Challenge Make a goal to avoid spending money during an entire weekend. The only exemption in this challenge is that you are allowed to pay bills. This challenge is interesting because it requires creativity. You must be creative and find workarounds for problems that you would typically solve by spending money. You may have a different outlook on spending after finishing this challenge.
