Are you looking for ways to save in 2012? If so, eBay is a great place to start.

Why Shop at eBay

You’ve probably heard of eBay. eBay offers a plethora of savings opportunities, whether you’re an avid eBay user or completely new to the site. You can search eBay for a specific item, or browse through categories for deals. Once you find an item, you’ll have one of two options of ways to purchase the item (note: not all items have both options). You can choose the “buy it now” option to purchase the item instantly for the price stated. Or, you can bid against other eBay users for the item. By bidding on an item, you have the opportunity to outbid other users and receive an awesomely low price.

How to Shop on eBay

If you’re already an eBay expert, you probably don’t need me to tell you how to shop on eBay. However, if you’re newer to eBay, it can be a little overwhelming. First, read all about getting started on eBay here. Now you’re reading to start shopping. If you’re looking for a specific item, enter the product description in the search bar at the top of the homepage. For example, when I enter “Finding Nemo” in the search bar, I get an array of products associated with the popular Disney movie. To narrow the search, choose “DVDs & Movies” from the category pull-down menu to the right of the search bar. Now you can scroll through and find the cheapest “Finding Nemo” DVD to bid on or buy now.

Shopping and saving with eBay can take some patience. You might not always find a great deal on the item you’re searching for, but don’t fret. Check back often because there are new listings everyday. You can find deals on just about anything and everything on eBay. I even saved a few thousand dollars buying a car on eBay!

Saving with eBay doesn’t stop by buying – you can also make money by selling on eBay! Learn how to make money with eBay here.

Good Tip: Saving money is important – especially if you have a lot of expenses like bills to pay, loans to pay off, and all the other things that drain your bank account. Figuring out a way to save money can feel tedious to some, and like a punishment to others. U.S. News suggests that you try one of these money saving challenges. The “No Eating Out for a Month” Challenge This one is self-explanatory. The goal is to avoid eating out for an entire month. This might be super easy for people who enjoy making meals at home. People who really enjoy dining out, or ordering food to be sent to their home, may struggle with this one. It’s worth a try because spending money on take-out is more expensive than buying groceries. The Pantry Challenge This one is a variation of the “No Eating Out for a Month” challenge. The goal is to use up all of your groceries before you buy more. It forces you to try and remember why you bought a food or beverage that you don’t know what to do with, and gives you the opportunity to find a way to use it. The one exemption to this challenge is the foods that have expired. Don’t eat them! Throw them in the trash. The “No Spend” Challenge Make a goal to avoid spending money during an entire weekend. The only exemption in this challenge is that you are allowed to pay bills. This challenge is interesting because it requires creativity. You must be creative and find workarounds for problems that you would typically solve by spending money. You may have a different outlook on spending after finishing this challenge.
