Save on In Season Produce in July

WatermelonThere are so many good reasons to buy produce when it is in season. It is fresh, and healthy, and especially abundant during a particular month. You can save money if you buy fruits and vegetables when they are in season. It costs less because it doesn’t have to be stored. Print out this list of the fruits and vegetables that are in season in July and take it to the grocery store with you!

This month, there are several different kinds of berries that are in season. Add some to your yogurt. Mix them together for a berry “salad”. They make a quick and easy snack that doesn’t require any cooking at all. There are also a couple of different types of melons in season now. Cut them into chunks, or use a melon baller to make fancy round snacks.

July Fruits
Apricots – Delicious, and low in calories
Blackberries – A quick and tasty snack
Blueberries – Time to make blueberry pancakes!
Cantaloupe – A nice alternative to watermelon
Cherries – Put one on your sundae
Figs – They have been called “the world’s healthiest food”
Kiwi – Funny looking fuzzy fruit with a unique flavor
Mangos – Try some mango salsa on your fish tacos
Nectarines – Similar to peaches, but without the fuzz
Peaches – Who doesn’t love peaches?
Plums – One of my new favorites!
Raspberries – Mix with other berries and add whipped cream
Strawberries – They are the favorite fruit of a lot of people
Watermelon – It isn’t summer without the watermelon!

July Vegetables
Corn – This is the perfect food for grilling!
Green Beans – Makes a nice side dish for dinner
Kohlrabi – Time to try something new
Lettuce – A “must have” topping on a burger.
Okra – Ingredient used in Southern cooking
Peppers – Colorful and good for you
Summer Squash – Another one of my favorites this month!
Swiss Chard – Contains plenty of vitamins and fiber
Tomatoes – Great in a salad or on top of a burger
Zucchini – Awesome in a stir fry!
