How to Take Advantage of Off Season Deals

Time to get a great deal!

Time to get a great deal!

One of the easiest ways to save money is to time your purchases to off season or off peak times. A good example of this is buying clearance summer clothing in the fall. It is so much nicer to spend only $2 on a dress for my daughter rather than $35. Hanging it in her closet until next summer takes up no additional space or causes any problem, so shopping off season is clearly worth it.

Another example is buying this year’s electronics right before the major model changes for next year start to come out. We did that when it came time to buy our HDTV. My husband had already scouted out the model he wanted, so when the time was right, we pounced, and saved $1,500!

You can find off season deals in a number of ways. Beside the ones I mentioned above, you can look for the clearance section of your favorite online store. There will often be off seasonal deals here. When shopping online, apply coupon codes to the seasonal deal, making it that much sweeter. For example, I was able to take advantage of girl’s socks on clearance at JC Penny’s and then applied the recent $10 off of $10 coupon. All I had to pay was shipping.

Sometimes you can find coupon codes that will turn something into a seasonal deal. For example, Abt electronics has coupon codes that can be applied to air conditioners and Weber grills. so while these products haven’t been moved to any sort of clearance section, the coupon codes essentially do the same thing. These deals may be a little harder to find, so keep your eyes open.

With that in mind, here are some of those off season coupon codes I have been talking about. Make sure to hurry as some of these expire today.

Good Tip: Saving money is important – especially if you have a lot of expenses like bills to pay, loans to pay off, and all the other things that drain your bank account. Figuring out a way to save money can feel tedious to some, and like a punishment to others. U.S. News suggests that you try one of these money saving challenges. The “No Eating Out for a Month” Challenge This one is self-explanatory. The goal is to avoid eating out for an entire month. This might be super easy for people who enjoy making meals at home. People who really enjoy dining out, or ordering food to be sent to their home, may struggle with this one. It’s worth a try because spending money on take-out is more expensive than buying groceries. The Pantry Challenge This one is a variation of the “No Eating Out for a Month” challenge. The goal is to use up all of your groceries before you buy more. It forces you to try and remember why you bought a food or beverage that you don’t know what to do with, and gives you the opportunity to find a way to use it. The one exemption to this challenge is the foods that have expired. Don’t eat them! Throw them in the trash. The “No Spend” Challenge Make a goal to avoid spending money during an entire weekend. The only exemption in this challenge is that you are allowed to pay bills. This challenge is interesting because it requires creativity. You must be creative and find workarounds for problems that you would typically solve by spending money. You may have a different outlook on spending after finishing this challenge.
