We all know that buying used can save a lot of money. However, when it comes to electronic equipment, buying used isn’t always the best idea. This is because technology is updated frequently enough that older models might not be compatible with everything else out there.

This is especially true with computers. Does that mean that you always have to spend top dollar for them? Of course not. The secret to getting the same new models but at a deep discount is to get them refurbished.

What is a refurbished model? Well, usually it is a product that for whatever reason can’t be sold as new. It could be a model that had a problem that needed to be fixed, or it could simply be a product where the person buying it suffered from buyers remorse and decided to return it.

The refurbished model is then sent back to the factory to be tested, repaired if needed and even cleaned up. Then it goes back out to be sold as a refurbished model.

Refurbished models usually carry the same warranties as new models. Sometimes they even have free extended warranties thrown in. The laptop I am using now to write this post was a refurbished model. We saved $500 off of the price of the exact same laptop sold as new. You just can’t beat that.

In all of the years I’ve had this machine, the only repair was a new electrical cord when my kids were running around too fast and pulled the machine violently to the floor. Despite the accident, it escaped unscathed, except for the cord, of course.

If you would like to see all of the great discounts you can get, compare the cost of refurbished models with the same versions sold as new. You may be surprised.

How do you find refurbished models? Well, they aren’t always advertised, and they can be few and far between, so you have to keep your eyes open and keep checking your favorite retailer to see when anything good is available. Only Apple sells refurbished Macs, iPods, iPads and iPhones, so you can check their website for these items. For PC computers or other electronics, there may be many, many choices. of course, you still may only be able to check to the refurbished items through a special link or coupon code.

Here are some of the refurbished deals that I was able to find today. Since the quanities are limited (sometimes only one item), act fast.
