How to Save Money on Beauty Products

Are designer cosmetics and department store beauty product prices draining your wallet? The following tips can help you to save money on beauty products and still leave you looking and feeling fabulous. Who ever said you had to choose between savvy shopping and looking gorgeous?
Shopping online is one of the best ways to save money on beauty products. Many online stores, such as StrawberryNET and Beauty.com, offer the brands you love for less. I found my favorite powder online for $10 less than my local store. You can also find online coupon codes and printable coupons for beauty products. Many stores also offer free shipping, samples, and gifts when you order online, so keep an eye out for those special deals.
Give Generic Brands a Chance
Change isn’t always easy when it comes to our favorite beauty products, but generic store brands can save you a lot of money in the long run. For example, L’Oreal owns several luxury brands, including Lancome. The main difference between L’Oreal and Lancome products is the price. You can get L’Oreal eye cream from your local drug store for around $15, while the Lancome equivalent costs over $60. Look for generic store brands for other items such as body washes, soaps, shampoos, and lotions too. Often, the store brands include the same ingredients but cost less. For example, Dove Sensitive Skin Nourishing Body Wash is $5.99 while the CVS brand equivalent is only $3.99. Check out store deals for Walmart, Target, CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens.
Buy 2-in-1 Products
Many beauty products can get two jobs done at once. For example, with summer quickly approaching, look for a body lotion with SPF that can double as sunscreen. You can also try 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner. Target offers Garnier Fructis 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner for $4.74, while buying the shampoo and conditioner separate will cost you double.
Mineral makeup is another great product that can save you money. Although mineral makeup can still be pricey, it goes a long way and offers great coverage so that you can cut back on the number of other products you buy. A good mineral powder will usually cost about $30-$40 but should last for up to 6 months and there is no need for a foundation. My favorite brands are Bare Escentuals and gloMinerals.
Homemade Beauty Products
Beauty products such as facial scrubs, cleansers, makeup removers, and hair treatments can be made with items right out of your kitchen. You can find great homemade beauty recipes by searching the web.
A Few More Tips for Saving
- Don’t wash your hair every day. Washing your hair every other day instead will cut your shampoo and conditioner use in half and give you shinier, healthier hair too!
- Don’t use too much makeup. Instead, subtly highlight your favorite features.
- Consider alternatives. Baby oil can be a great substitute for pricey makeup removers. You can also replace expensive night creams with Vitamin E oil.
- Have realistic goals. Don’t fall victim to the beauty industry’s unrealistic promises. If they say their facial cream will make you look 20 years younger in just two weeks (and for just 3 easy payments of $49), the truth is it probably won’t. Instead, stick with products you know work and enhance your natural beauty. A shimmery earth tone eye shadow can highlight your eyes, or the perfect gloss can make your lips really pop.
By saving money on beauty products, you can afford to have a little fun – try some new makeup colors, treat yourself to a pedicure, maybe splurge on those summer wedges you’ve been eying all week. Really, there is no need to spend hundreds on beauty products when there are perfectly suitable (and much more affordable) alternatives on the market. You just need to know where to look!
