Not ready to start spring cleaning? Try some of these easy, and frugal, ways to freshen up your home for spring.Winter weather requires you to keep your windows closed. When spring finally arrives, it is time to freshen up your home. You might not be ready to begin your spring cleaning routine on the very first day of spring weather. Instead, try some of these simple and frugal ways to quickly freshen up your home for spring.

How to Freshen Your Home for Spring

Open your Windows
Let the warm, spring, breezes freshen up the air in your home. There is something about having to keep the windows shut, during a long winter, that makes the air feel “stale”. Spring gives you the opportunity to let in the flower-scented air of spring. If someone in your family has pollen allergies, you may want to skip this idea and try some of the others instead.

Make a Natural Air Freshener
Country Living has an easy recipe for a natural air freshener. Get some orange rinds (or lemon slices). Toss them into a pot of water and add some rosemary. Let it simmer. The fruit and rosemary will give off a lovely, fresh, scent. It will help take the “staleness” out of the air in your home.

Use some Baking Soda.
Need a simple, inexpensive, way to freshen up a couch or upholstered chair? Baking soda to the rescue! Sprinkle a lot of baking soda over the entire piece of furniture and let it sit overnight. The baking soda can absorb and remove odors. The next day, use your vacuum to remove the baking soda. Your couch or chair will smell much fresher!

Repaint the Walls
How many years has it been since the walls of your home had a fresh coat of paint? Spring weather is perfect for painting. It is warm enough for the paint to spread easily onto the walls. Open the windows to let the paint fumes out while you work. Sometimes, all it takes is a new wall color to make a boring room look fresh and exciting.

Plastic Plants and Flowers
Can’t wait for spring to arrive? You can create the feeling of spring in your home no matter what the weather outside is like. Purchase a couple of silk plants from your favorite department store. Pick a bouquet of plastic, colorful, flowers from a dollar store. Put the flowers into your favorite vase and display them on the table or by a window. Add the plastic plants, and spring is here!

You can’t change the weather to hurry spring along. You can, however, freshen your home with lovely, plastic, flowers that will always remain beautiful. Dust them off as needed.

Good Tip: Saving money is important – especially if you have a lot of expenses like bills to pay, loans to pay off, and all the other things that drain your bank account. Figuring out a way to save money can feel tedious to some, and like a punishment to others. U.S. News suggests that you try one of these money saving challenges. The “No Eating Out for a Month” Challenge This one is self-explanatory. The goal is to avoid eating out for an entire month. This might be super easy for people who enjoy making meals at home. People who really enjoy dining out, or ordering food to be sent to their home, may struggle with this one. It’s worth a try because spending money on take-out is more expensive than buying groceries. The Pantry Challenge This one is a variation of the “No Eating Out for a Month” challenge. The goal is to use up all of your groceries before you buy more. It forces you to try and remember why you bought a food or beverage that you don’t know what to do with, and gives you the opportunity to find a way to use it. The one exemption to this challenge is the foods that have expired. Don’t eat them! Throw them in the trash. The “No Spend” Challenge Make a goal to avoid spending money during an entire weekend. The only exemption in this challenge is that you are allowed to pay bills. This challenge is interesting because it requires creativity. You must be creative and find workarounds for problems that you would typically solve by spending money. You may have a different outlook on spending after finishing this challenge.
