Bed Bath & Beyond has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after it failed in several last-ditch efforts to raise enough money to keep the company alive, CNBC reported.

The company’s 360 namesake stores and 120 Buybuy Baby locations will remain open for the time being as it begins to close the business and liquidate assets. But it has filed motions in New Jersey bankruptcy court asking permission to auction the two brands, the company said in a release. It has already committed to closing all of its Harmon FaceValue stores.

“Millions of customers have trusted us through the most important milestones in their lives – from going to college and getting married, settling into a new home to having a baby. Our teams have worked with incredible purpose to support and strengthen our beloved banners, Bed Bath & Beyond and buybuy BABY,” CEO Sue Grove said in a statement.

What does this mean for your Bed Bath & Beyond coupons and gift cards?

According to KSBY, navigates its bankruptcy filing, there are key dates customers will want to pay attention to. The retailer said store closing sales began on April 26, but don’t expect to use those coupons you get in the mail.

The Bed Bath & Beyond website posted: “We anticipate that we will stop accepting coupons on April 26, 2023, when we start our store closing sales, where customers will be able to shop for your favorite products at deep discounts,” the company states on its website.

KSBY reported that if you have a gift card, you will want to use it soon. The retailer says it expects to stop accepting gift cards after May 8, 2023.

Returning items may be a bit tricky. All items purchased during store closing sales are final. However, items purchased priorate April 26 can still be returned until May 24, 2023.

Bed Bath & Beyond customers can still shop online. For those waiting for online orders, the company says, “We expect all in-stock orders will be fulfilled.”

Where can you use Bed Bath & Beyond coupons now?

Big Lots is assisting shoppers nationwide by exchanging all expired Bed Bath & Beyond coupons presented at any Big Lots store now through May 7, 2023. Any shopper presenting any Bed Bath & Beyond coupon will receive 20% off their entire purchase of $50 or more.

What about the liquidation event?

The Hill reported Bed Bath & Beyond store closing sales have started at 360 locations and 120 Buy Buy Baby locations.

“This is an opportunity to save on household items or stock up on baby essentials at discounted prices. New merchandise is arriving in stores. Top-selling items from the most sought-after brands will be discounted and will sell out very quickly,” said a spokesperson for the liquidation event.

You may want to prioritize using Bed Bath & Beyond or Buy Buy Baby gift cards or store credits soon. The deadline to use them is May 8. All sales are final during the store closing event. Returns and exchanges stopped being accepted for merchandise purchased before April 26.

Good Tip: Saving money is important – especially if you have a lot of expenses like bills to pay, loans to pay off, and all the other things that drain your bank account. Figuring out a way to save money can feel tedious to some, and like a punishment to others. U.S. News suggests that you try one of these money saving challenges. The “No Eating Out for a Month” Challenge This one is self-explanatory. The goal is to avoid eating out for an entire month. This might be super easy for people who enjoy making meals at home. People who really enjoy dining out, or ordering food to be sent to their home, may struggle with this one. It’s worth a try because spending money on take-out is more expensive than buying groceries. The Pantry Challenge This one is a variation of the “No Eating Out for a Month” challenge. The goal is to use up all of your groceries before you buy more. It forces you to try and remember why you bought a food or beverage that you don’t know what to do with, and gives you the opportunity to find a way to use it. The one exemption to this challenge is the foods that have expired. Don’t eat them! Throw them in the trash. The “No Spend” Challenge Make a goal to avoid spending money during an entire weekend. The only exemption in this challenge is that you are allowed to pay bills. This challenge is interesting because it requires creativity. You must be creative and find workarounds for problems that you would typically solve by spending money. You may have a different outlook on spending after finishing this challenge.
