Pesticides linked to ADHD

Pesticides linked to ADHD

Did you see the recent news about a new study that found a definite link between consuming pesticides and ADHD in kids? It is pretty scary, and as I contemplate all of the things in our lives that are non-organic, I confess that I am having a bit of a panic attack. Even tiny amounts of pesticides are shown to affect brain chemistry.

You can check out an article that talks about it, here.

I don’t want to go overboard, but knowing this information, I can’t help but want to avoid all of those pesticides for my kids. I would feel as though I was poisoning them otherwise. The tough side is knowing that organic products tend to cost so much more than the non-organics. So, guess what I am doing this morning? Yup, checking out printable coupons, coupon codes and deals for organic products.

Now the article talked mostly about pesticides from produce, especially strawberries and blueberries (both of which are in my fridge at the moment). So, I am going to be looking into my local CSA and wiggle my budget to be able to start buying organic produce at our local farm stand. I’d love to start a garden, too, but that will have to be on the list for next year. And of course, I’ll be on the look out for printable coupons for organic food.

it also got me wondering about other products that contain chemicals, from carpeting to bedding to child-related products. Shampoo, soap and other health and beauty products can contain toxic chemicals as well.

I’d like to start changing things over in my home as the budget allows. What do think?

Once I started looking, I was surprised by how many printable coupons, coupon codes and deals are out there for organic products. Below are some of my current favorites.

Good Tip: Saving money is important – especially if you have a lot of expenses like bills to pay, loans to pay off, and all the other things that drain your bank account. Figuring out a way to save money can feel tedious to some, and like a punishment to others. U.S. News suggests that you try one of these money saving challenges. The “No Eating Out for a Month” Challenge This one is self-explanatory. The goal is to avoid eating out for an entire month. This might be super easy for people who enjoy making meals at home. People who really enjoy dining out, or ordering food to be sent to their home, may struggle with this one. It’s worth a try because spending money on take-out is more expensive than buying groceries. The Pantry Challenge This one is a variation of the “No Eating Out for a Month” challenge. The goal is to use up all of your groceries before you buy more. It forces you to try and remember why you bought a food or beverage that you don’t know what to do with, and gives you the opportunity to find a way to use it. The one exemption to this challenge is the foods that have expired. Don’t eat them! Throw them in the trash. The “No Spend” Challenge Make a goal to avoid spending money during an entire weekend. The only exemption in this challenge is that you are allowed to pay bills. This challenge is interesting because it requires creativity. You must be creative and find workarounds for problems that you would typically solve by spending money. You may have a different outlook on spending after finishing this challenge.
