Save money on toys

Do you remember my earlier post about the gift closet? Well, having one definitely came in handy the other day when one of my children told me about a birthday party he wanted to attend only the night before the event! Fortunately, his friend was interested in dinosaurs, and my son was able to pull out a brand new dinosaur game that I got for about 80 percent off!

Now I need to replace that game with another gift, as well as stock up for all of the summer birthdays, fall birthdays and winter holidays. Here are some of the best toy and entertainment deals out there today.

GameStop.com – 25% off $100+ order. Use Coupon Code 25OFF

This is a great opportunity to stock up for the holidays, because 25 percent off is hard to come by. There are a lot of great titles that are pretty cheap right now, so you could really get a lot ofr that $100. They also have a deal going on for free overnight shipping when you spend $75, so combine the deals. The free shipping is limited to the first 1,000 customers of the day.

Hobbytron – Free Shipping on $40+ order. Use Coupon Code freeship.

I just took a look at their site, and they have a ton of remote controlled vehicles, including jeeps and helicopters that are on sale and on clearance. A lot of stores start the toy clearance a bit early to make room for new stuff to come during the holidays. This is especially true for electronic toys.

Melissa & Doug – Free Ground Shipping on $75+ order. Use Coupon Code FREESHIP

Melissa & Doug toys are good quality wooden toys, as well as puppets, for kids, and parents love them. I don’t often find a sale on these toys, which is why I included this free shipping deal. If there are Melissa & Doug items that you have had your eye, then take advantage of it now. Sometimes Amazon.com will offer discounts on these toys in October or November, but the prices change back quickly, so you really have to keep ahead of the game there.

Here is another free shipping deal. Back To Basics Toys – Free Shipping on an order. Use Coupon Code GREEN3 You can also get a free paper recycling factory if you are one of the first customers to spend $100.

Good Tip: Saving money is important – especially if you have a lot of expenses like bills to pay, loans to pay off, and all the other things that drain your bank account. Figuring out a way to save money can feel tedious to some, and like a punishment to others. U.S. News suggests that you try one of these money saving challenges. The “No Eating Out for a Month” Challenge This one is self-explanatory. The goal is to avoid eating out for an entire month. This might be super easy for people who enjoy making meals at home. People who really enjoy dining out, or ordering food to be sent to their home, may struggle with this one. It’s worth a try because spending money on take-out is more expensive than buying groceries. The Pantry Challenge This one is a variation of the “No Eating Out for a Month” challenge. The goal is to use up all of your groceries before you buy more. It forces you to try and remember why you bought a food or beverage that you don’t know what to do with, and gives you the opportunity to find a way to use it. The one exemption to this challenge is the foods that have expired. Don’t eat them! Throw them in the trash. The “No Spend” Challenge Make a goal to avoid spending money during an entire weekend. The only exemption in this challenge is that you are allowed to pay bills. This challenge is interesting because it requires creativity. You must be creative and find workarounds for problems that you would typically solve by spending money. You may have a different outlook on spending after finishing this challenge.
