Deals to Get You Organized!

Now is a great time to start getting your household and your life more organized. The colder weather keeps us indoors where the chaos is starting to become apparent. I really want to get a jump on getting things at home under control before the busier spring comes along. That is when the kids activities start to step up and when the warmer weather gives me the cleaning bug to get everything really sparkling. I think it has something to do with the sunlight streaming in and revealing all of the dirt that hid over the winter.

Yesterday, I was able to get rid of an entire box of papers from my office, as well as a bag full of outgrown clothing. Still, I have a long way to go. My in box is full of more papers that need to be filed or dealt with, the attic has a box of photos that need organization, my kitchen pantry is overstuffed with cookbooks and recipes, and the kids toys are out of control. It is overwhelming.

Along with the papers and the clothing yesterday, I should add that I did manage to fill a large box of outgrown toys last week, but if I don’t get them over to the church nursery soon, the kids may start pulling them out again.

Ack.

Decluttering is one thing, but then there has to be a system in place to organize all of the things that we do keep. This actually helps with slimming down the possessions, since when you have everything in its place, you know that there is no room for more unless you get rid of something else. And the papers on my desk will soon start piling up again, unless I have an easy way to deal with them as they come in.

So, I’ve been scouting out some of the organizational stores to get some ideas for organizing those areas in my home that need it the most. I’d like to share what I found with you in case you are in the middle of your own organization (or know that you soon need to be).

Good Tip: Saving money is important – especially if you have a lot of expenses like bills to pay, loans to pay off, and all the other things that drain your bank account. Figuring out a way to save money can feel tedious to some, and like a punishment to others. U.S. News suggests that you try one of these money saving challenges. The “No Eating Out for a Month” Challenge This one is self-explanatory. The goal is to avoid eating out for an entire month. This might be super easy for people who enjoy making meals at home. People who really enjoy dining out, or ordering food to be sent to their home, may struggle with this one. It’s worth a try because spending money on take-out is more expensive than buying groceries. The Pantry Challenge This one is a variation of the “No Eating Out for a Month” challenge. The goal is to use up all of your groceries before you buy more. It forces you to try and remember why you bought a food or beverage that you don’t know what to do with, and gives you the opportunity to find a way to use it. The one exemption to this challenge is the foods that have expired. Don’t eat them! Throw them in the trash. The “No Spend” Challenge Make a goal to avoid spending money during an entire weekend. The only exemption in this challenge is that you are allowed to pay bills. This challenge is interesting because it requires creativity. You must be creative and find workarounds for problems that you would typically solve by spending money. You may have a different outlook on spending after finishing this challenge.
