Can you believe that Black Friday, November 27, is next week already?  I’ve got some information here about some of the sales that will be ready for in store deals on that day, and online deals for that weekend.

Walmart is the big newsmaker.  They’ve given us this sneak peek:

I cannot believe this price for a 50″ Plasma HDTV.  If you’ve been looking for a big purchase like this, Black Friday at Walmart is your day to go.

To avoid the deadly crush that occurred last year in one of it’s stores where an employee was trampled to death, Walmart has announced that most of its stores will be open 24 hours on Black Friday, but the sale prices will be in effect at 5 am.

If you have these prices advertised in a flyer, you can get them price matched at Target.

JC Penney announced its doorbuster for Saturday, Nov 28.  It will be a Disney Mickey Snowglobe with a $10 coupon.

Toys R Us has some great doorbusters, starting at midnight, Nov. 27.  Receive a $50 gift cars with purchase of any iPod touch ($199.99).  Their ad shows lots of great bargains at 40%-60% off from midnight to 1 pm on Friday.  There are additional doorbusters beginning at 5 am on Friday.  Most stores will be on that schedule, Paramus stores will open at 7 am.

Where do you find the tearpads?  In stores.  Look not only at Publix, but at other stores as well. Publix honors competitors coupons, so bring the coupons from your local cometing store for extra savings. Walmart does this too.  I have often found great tearpad displays at Walmart, Publix, CVS, Target, Family Dollar, and Weis.  It also pays to check the coupon books and special coupons at the front of the store.  Publix has great displays at the front that are loaded not only with coupon books, but also with loose coupons and tearpads.

Starting today, Walmart will have rollback items on select items, including 12 pound turkeys for $5.  Other turkeys will be on sale for .40 a pound.  Can you say “yesterday’s prices”? 

The total plan for the $20 Thanksgiving meal includes the following:
One 12-pound Grade A turkey
Three 11 to 15.5-ounce cans Green Giant vegetables
Two 14-ounce cans Ocean Spray cranberry sauce
Three 6-ounce boxes of Stove Top stuffing

There will be a limit of two turkeys per customer. 

Walmart is also featuring deals on Electronics.  THere ill be a 298 HP notebook available in store and on line.  There are also other cincredible electronic deals on HDTVs, Xbox, and a $148 Sony Blu-Ray Player. 

Walmart wants to avoid the crush that happened last year at one Long Island store on Black Friday, when an employee was trampled by a stampeding crowd.  Like many retailers, they are not waiting for Black Friday this year to jump start the holiday shopping season.  The careful timing and planning means better savings for all, over a period of time. 

And we haven’t even arrived at Black Friday yet.  These are just the sales up until Black Friday.

I also received a coupon in the mail for 20% off tomorrow and Saturday. Now that is pretty sweet.  Lets see, 20% off, ECBS, coupons - well, it all adds up to some pretty great savings.

In the Christmas book, there are ECB deals on Axe products - buy 2 and get $2 ECBS.  Buy an Axe gift set for $9.99, get a $2 ECB.  My son loves this stuff, so guess what will be stuffing his stocking. I told you that the retailers were going to step things up this year, didn’t I? This is really exciting news.

I plan on watching these $10 toys closely. Not only will it make the regular holiday shopping easier, but I may even stock up on extras for some of my favorite Toys for Tots and other charities.

Another idea I had was to stock up for my gift closet. In other words, I can have a stash of toys ready for all of the birthday parties my kids will be invited to throughout the coming year.

The $10 toys have already been coming in, although the full 100 don’t seem to be all available just yet. Still, if you want to avoid the crowd, there are plenty to chose from right now including some hot toys.

It looks like the coupon advertisers want to help you get ready for Thanksgiving and holiday baking.  There are coupons for Pet Evaporated Milk ($1/3),and Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk ($1/2) and it looks like there are other baking items as well. You’ll also find coupons for giftable items such as Build a Bear and Coty Fragrances.

Here’s a holiday offer you will like.  Get $10 back when you buy 10 participating Nabisco Crackers.  Remember the coupons you got in the Save $55 throughout the school year booklet, and the 2 rebate forms for $20 each?  Well, here’s another rebate on top of that. Nabisco really wants you to like their crackers!

The Holidays are going to be fun this year, and it’s clear that it will be easy to get in the mood early!  Kmart will be offering a rebate program similiar to CVS ExtraCare Bucks, and Kohls continues to have success with Kohl’s cash.  In fact, Safeway stores are currently offering $10 Kohl’s rewards at checkout for every $50 you spend.  You only have till November 8 to score those, and you can only redeem them for a limited time.  Finding all these great deals that can double up and triple up for great savings is part of the holiday fun!

Many stores utilize a bonus card or club card for their store. You can’t get the sale or discounted price unless you have this card. The problem is that sometimes the cashiers are so busy that they forget to scan the card during your order. This means that you won’t get the sales price and instead, you will have to pay the full regular price. Always make sure your cashier scans your card. You can even assign this job to a child or another member of your family, so you can get busy loading the belt or getting your coupons out.

If cashiers forget to scan cards, they also forget to scan coupons. Sometimes they forget to scan all of your coupons, and sometimes they only forget to scan a few. Either way, you are out some cash. Since it is easy for the cashier to get distracted, I usually tell them I have coupons and then hand the coupons over after all of my items have been scanned. This way, the cashier has the coupons in hand when he or she is ready to scan them. And, I can watch the screen as the money comes off for each coupon.

Finally, here is an error that isn’t the cashier’s fault. Just because an item is on sale, doesn’t mean that the scanner will record the sale price. Many items scan in at full price, even if they are advertised on sale. When this happens, you are often entitled to a cash bonus in addition to having the price corrected. Usually the bonus is to simply get the item for free, or it can be up to an additional $5 back. This all depends on the store policy and the state law.

Here is what I plan on doing.

I think food will be my biggest expense. To save money on groceries, I’ve been gathering the coupons for some of the special foods that we will need for the holidays. Our local grocery store offers a free turkey with points, and with a family of five, I should be making enough purchases there to qualify. Anything that is non perishable can be picked up as soon as a good sale comes along.

I’ll also be combining coupons and sales, and then stacking the coupons when I can.
This strategy also applies to cleaning products. I will definitely be stepping up the cleaning for company. Generic cleaners and home made cleaners (such as vinegar and water to wash windows) will save a bunch of money.

For some affairs, I can get away with hosting a pot luck. This will cut down on the food costs, and we will all get the benefit of everyone’s favorite dishes!
When I provide all of the food myself, it is often cheaper to make it all from scratch or at least assemble it myself. For example, instead of buying a cut fruit platter, I will buy the fruit whole and cut it.

For music, I already have a bunch of holiday music on my iPod, but I’ll still be looking out for more. Amazon often offers free music downloads. Napster is offering a free trial of downloads, too. There are also a number of online sources for streaming holiday music, such as http://www.accuradio.com/holidays/

Did you know that you can often save on wine and alcohol when you go almost to the source. Large distributors often sell to the public. Local shops may also have some great recommendations on less pricey but excellent wine and other beverages.
