SmartSource February 28 Insert, and RedPlum Results
There’s just one insert this weekend, from SmartSource. You can check out our preview here. The Sunday insert coupons continue to be a great source of savings for all, and our preview is always popular.
Redplum has announced a list of the top ten coupon cities, based on downloads of their coupons. New York tops the list, followed by Chicago, Illinois and Atlanta. New York is not a city known for frugality, so this is not surprising. This is proof that even in an expensive area, people are looking for as many deals as they can find. Salt Lake City comes in at #10, and reports that the average value of coupons downloaded is $3.
Redplum took a lot of criticism last year for removing their inserts from some papers, and accentuating print coupons. I am not sure how this list of cities matches up to where they have been removed from the papers, but it says that there’s a lot of activity going on when it comes to finding the best way to pay the lowest price.
Organizing Bonus Cards
Bonus, reward or store loyalty cards can be great. They allow you to get discounts and sale prices at your favorite store and they allow you to get rebates and register rewards. They only problem is that every darn store seems to have a bonus, reward or loyalty card.
Why is this a problem? Well, I for one was having a lot of trouble keeping track of all of these cards. First I tried loading up my wallet with every card I got until it looked like some overfed and groaning animal, stretching the leather of my wallet and making it impossible to close. Then I tried to convenient key chain cards, but they too were crowding things. Plus, I couldn’t remember if a card was in my wallet or on my keychain.
Another problem was keeping track of who had the keychain with the bonus cards on it. For example, if I ran to the pharmacy but left that particular set of keys with my husband, well then I was out of luck and out of bonus cards.
But ah-ha! Necessity is the mother of invention, right? I have a solution that seems to work well for me. I simply made sure that all of our bonus cards came in the keychain form. Then I purchased a new, virgin, keychain just for the bonus cards. To make finding them easier, I placed a small bead in between the cards on the keychain and even color coded the beads: green for groceries, red for the pharmacy, etc.
All of the bonus cards are in one place. I usually keep them in my purse, but you can also keep them with your reusable shopping bags, or anywhere that is convenient.

Eddie Bauer 50 Percent Off Clearance
Today I stumbled into our local Eddie Bauer retail store. Okay, well maybe stumbled isn’t the right word. We were out on an adventure for the day, had just grabbed lunch and were thinking of what else we could do between appointments.
I was reminded that with a recent weight loss, my pants were pretty much falling off of my body. Jeans just aren’t meant to be rolled down at the waist to keep them up. Hey, I’m not complaining, mind you.
When we got in, I headed straight to the back where the clearance section is. It couldn’t hurt to look, right? While I really like Eddie Bauer clothes, I still have a hard time paying the normal retail prices. Luckily, and here is where the stumbling part comes in, the clearance items were marked down by about 30-50 percent, and then all clearance was marked an additional 50 percent off! That means that I was able to get a lovely long-sleeve shirt for only $6.50 and a pair of $75 jeans for only $25. There were dress shirts for my husband at only $6 a piece.
All outer wear clearance was marked an additional 30 percent off.
In my experience, the Eddie Bauer clothing, especially the jeans, tend to hold up well, even after multiple washes and the dryer.
I talked with the manager a bit, and she said that although she wasn’t sure how long this promotion would be running, it wasn’t one that comes along often. So if you get a chance, go and check out your local store to see if there are any good bargains.
As for sizes, at my local store, I saw a lot of small and extra large sizes, but there were also quite a few mediums and large sizes, as well as jean sizes from 2 through 16. So often clearance items only have the odd sizes still available.
Happy shopping!
Sunday Insert Coupon Preview: Great P&G Deals
Our preview of Sunday’s coupons is here. You’ll find three inserts this weekend: a SmartSource, a RedPlum, and a P&G BrandSaver. There are some Target store coupons included in the SmartSource and RedPlum. The P&G Brandsaver has some great deals on Olay, and you should combine these with deals this week at Walgreens. Don’t forget, there is a $15 rebate for Olay products, so you should use these coupons to seal the deal - and maybe profit!
I’d like some feedback on our coupon previews. I’d like to know if you find them useful, and also how you have been helped in your savings and your trading. How can we make planning your shopping easier? Please reply to this blog with your suggestions!
P&G has a number of promotions out for coupon booklets in the mail when you buy $25 to $50 worth of their products. Watch for forms in the stores, and for the P&G Year of Savings form in this weekend’s insert.
Free Magazine Subscriptions for February
The other day, my sister in law was hunting through her house for an old magazine to use your her son’s Kindergarten homework assignment. I was visiting and happened to have the current Woman’s Day magazine with me. When I told her that I got Woman’s Day and many other magazines for free, I think she was impressed.
The secret to all of these free magazine subscriptions is to simply look out for the free offers and they come about and then sign up for them quickly. Free magazine subscriptions, especially for the more popular magazines, go quickly.

Free Sample Bonanza with Walmart, Tide and More
The Walmart free sample page is looking a little skimpy these days, but there are still three free samples that you can order. As I mentioned before, Walmart free samples are very reliable, and they come quickly. But because I want to load you up with free samples, I am also including some of the best other samples that are available on the web. Hey, we are snowed in here again today, and I’ll need a good excuse to make the trek to the mail box in the next few days.
Getting plenty of fiber is a great idea, especially when it is free. Walmart is offering a free sample of Benefiber Orange.
Bedwetting can be tough for kids. Here is a sample of a product that can help, from Walmart.

Prilosec
If you suffer from heartburn, a free sample of Prilosec from Walmart may just be the thing to try.

Free Tide Samples and Coupon
Tide happens to be one of my favorite detergents. It seems to get the job done, although it isn’t as inexpensive as some other brands. So, when I can get samples and coupons in the mail, I am excited. Here is a signup for a free sample of Tide with Febreze Freshness, along with a $1 off coupon.
As a bonus, when you sign up for this offer, you’ll get the opportunity to piggyback other free samples, such as Pampers Cruisers, Tide Stain Release, Olay Total Effects, Iams coupons, and more.
You can get a free full-sized version of Pantene Nature Fusion shampoo right to your mailbox. It is rare to get a full size version of any product in the mail, so this one probably won’t last long. You will need to sign up with VocalPoint.com to get the sample.
I like sample packs because not only can you try different products in one freebie, but these sample packs are handy to throw in your purse for emergencies or donate to shelters.
With this sample, you can choose one of three different sample packs.
This is an easy sign up for a free sample kit of Poise. You get three products plus a coupon right to your mailbox.
