Sears Home & Holiday Deals Expiring Today!

Posted on Saturday, November 28th, 2009 at 8:34 am

Just in time for the holiday home, there are several home and holiday deals that are expiring at the end of the day today. Make sure you order what you need as early as possible to take advantage of the discounts before Sears runs out of stock.

Don’t worry if you are exhausted from all of that Black Friday shopping, because you can get these deals online, too. Sit back in your stretchy pants and enjoy the leftovers as you scoop up the bargains.

Sears – Daily Deals -Sharp HDTV

There are a few hours left to snag the daily deal for today, and it is a good one. This offer is for $600 off the Sharp 52 in. LED HDTV with Local Dimming.

Sears – 33% off Select Christmas Trees

You know that it is time for a new Christmas tree when your tree drops needles all over the house, and it is an artificial tree. For years we have been talking about replacing our family Christmas tree. Now, with 33 percent off, we are furiously comparing types and debating about having one that is pre-lit or not.

Sears – $30 off SteamFast Floor Steam Mop

This steam mop is a great bargain when you take that $30 off. The cost then becomes only $29.99. It was amazing how after spending two days scrubbing my house for Thanksgiving, it got all dirty again in just a few hours. Cranberry does not want to easily come out of the linoleum floor. I like the idea of the steam mop, because it doesn’t require chemicals.

Sears – All Fitness Equipment, Game Room and Scooters on sale

My second-hand elliptical machine broke beyond repair last month, so I am desperately seeking a replacement. I do want one that has some programming in it to help me with my motivation. If you have a Sears card, you will be able to get an additional 5% off.

Sears – Samsung HE Front Load Washer & Super Capacity Dryer Pair

Isn’t it amazing how the laundry piles up even if you only miss a day or two. I confess that I haven’t been doing much laundry during the last few days with all of the cooking and shopping. It would be nice if I could do two loads at once. It might be time for a washer and dryer with larger capacity. This pair from Sears is only $1199.98 Elec/$1259.48 Gas.

Online Only – $20 off Black & Decker 18v Cordless Chainsaw

If you are looking for a good typical guy gift, you might want to consider this chainsaw. We already have one, and my husband likes to use it any chance he gets. Black & Decker is a good name, and this one is on sale $89.99 until the end of the day.

I just pulled out my favorite Sears deals. There are other deals and coupon links available. Some expire at the end of today, and others expire later. There is a Sears – Online Only – $5 off $50+ order, Coupon Code: SEARS5OFF50 that you should be able to stack with the other deals.

Affording Disney Store Clothing

Posted on Thursday, November 26th, 2009 at 8:21 am

I have to say that I love Disney Store products. That is, stuff that is sold at the Disney Store. There are plenty of licensed Disney products that are sold elsewhere, in places such as Target, Walmart, Sears and even the local grocery store, but these can vary in quality.

I especially like the clothing that is available at the Disney Store, because it really stands the test of time. I have sweatshirts that were purchased in 200o and have been washed and worn many times. They are just starting to fray at bit at the cuffs, now, but in the last nine years, they haven’t noticeably faded or lost their shape.

Disney Store clothes for my kids have held up equally well. They get through two or three kids and still look good enough to pass down to others. And while I wouldn’t personally pass along my kid’s underwear, I can’t beat it for the fit and the sturdy elastic. The socks also seem to hold up long after other brands develop holes. And then there are the Halloween costumes that are warm and of good quality.

Christmas presents this year will include several Disney clothing items, plus a couple of beach blankets and throws.

Okay, before I start sounding like a Disney Store commercial, let me move on to how we can afford to partake of all of these wonderful bounty of Disney clothing. There are several strategies I employ.

The first is to shop at the outlet. Fortunately, we have a Disney Store outlet about 45 minutes away from us. There I can stock up on t-shirts that are $3 or less, dresses for under $10, sneakers for $3 or less and more. The special occasion clothing and those Halloween costumes are real deals. If you don’t happen to be near a Disney Store outlet, you can always check out the online outlet store. It might not have the same selection, but the items are more geared to the current season. The online outlet is divided by category.

Here is the link to the Baby Outlet for example. There are some adorable onsies there right now.

If you do shop online, use the code SHIP89 to get free shipping when you spend $89. It expires on 12/17.

Speaking of seasons, I try to shop just after a season or a holiday as often as possible, when I shop the regular non-outlet Disney Store. Merchandise gets marked down pretty quickly, so I can get some good deals. In the case of my kids, I stock up on next year’s sizes.

Another way to save at the Disney Store is to look for the T-shirt sales. In the summer, T-shirts will get marked way down for a limited time. With these sales, it is important to arrive early, or you may be left with nothing but XXL Grumpy T-shirts or XXS in whatever last year’s character was.

Free Holiday Recipes

Posted on Wednesday, November 25th, 2009 at 12:21 pm

Hosting the holidays this year may be a bit of a challenge. I have been looking for good recipes with low cost ingredients that will feed a crowd. Thankfully, there are plenty of free holiday recipe resources.

Have you checked out Allrecipes.com? This free site has many, many recipes. What I really like about it is that the recipes are all rated and reviewed by others. Reviews often contain suggestions for improvements and alternative versions. Plus, these recipes are easily scaled up or down.

Another great source of recipes are free recipe books and booklets. These books can either be downloaded or come through the regular mail. They often include coupons along with the recipes, which is always a good thing, right?

Here are some of my favorite current offers.

Thanksgiving Hotline Cookbook from Martha Stewart (Download)

Description from the site: “Many of the chefs’ recipes can be found in the Martha Stewart Thanksgiving Hotline Recipes Cookbook. Just click below for your copy of each delicious chapter, from desserts to, of course, turkey.”

Black Friday Shopping Tips

Posted on Monday, November 23rd, 2009 at 6:11 am

Ready for Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year? So is everyone else. If you don’t want to miss out on that hot deal but still want to stay safe, you’ll need some strategy and tips in your shopping arsenal. Here is my best advice.

Know the deals

Know exactly what the deals are as well as any restrictions. Some deals may have limited quantities in the store, some deals may allow you to only purchase one of an item and some deals may only be available at certain hours of the day. You want to understand the details of the deal in order to be best prepared to get it.

One way to keep up with the Black Friday deals is to check the FreeCoupons blog. I’ll be posting the hottest store deals as they become available.

Do your research

Just because that coffee maker is only $3 or than HDTV is only $200 doesn’t mean that it is the best deal for you. You want to make sure to do your research on the products behind the deal. Something that breaks within a few months isn’t a deal. Neither is something that doesn’t have all of the features that you need. Check product reviews and Consumer Reports magazine to make sure that the products are worth your time and your money.

Bring supplies

Some of the deals are tough to get and may require getting up at the crack of dawn to stand in line hours before the store opens. You’ll keep your stamina if you are prepared with a few supplies. First of all, bring a buddy. A friend can hold the line if you need a bathroom break and can provide support. Plus, the two of you can divide and conquer in the store, such as picking up two each of the hottest items, so you both can score as many deals as possible.

Make sure you also have water and some snacks to keep you going throughout the day.

Shop online

Finally, consider shopping online. Online stores also offer door busters and other hot deals, but without the hassle of standing in line. Instead, you’ll need to gather your coupon codes and be aware for limited time offers.

Happy shopping!

Holiday Coupon Matchups at Target

Posted on Saturday, November 21st, 2009 at 9:24 am

There’s just one insert this weekend in the newspapers.  The Smart Source insert that will be in the Sunday paper has lots of great coupons for the holidays.  You’ll find coupons for Pillsbury products, General Mills, Glade, and of course, a Butterball Turkey! Find this week’s insert list here.  You can find pdfs of earlier inserts here.

Look here for a $5 coupon off any Hasbro Star Wars Toy. Print two, and go to Target tomorrow.  The Star Wars Action figures are on sale 2/$11.99.  Use this coupon to get close to half off!.  Also at Target, buy Mr. Potato Head Toys for $3.99 till 1 pm Saturday.  Use this coupon to get them for $1.99.

Target has changed their internet coupons.  It’s no longer possible to see if they are manufacturer coupons or Target Coupons.  You’ll just have to print them out from the Target site and really take a look at them.  Don’t forget, Target store coupons are usually honored at Walmart and other stores.  Most of the savings this week are on toys.

From now through the holidays, there will be a lot of great gift matchups with special offers.  Look to see coupons on holiday foods, too, and opportunities to stock up.  And in keeping with the season – if you find a freebie you cannot use, donate it.

Other matchups at Target – Del Monte Canned Vegetables are .45 each.  Use the Target coupon for $1/6 and combine it with the $1/8 coupon in last week’s Red Plum insert, and you have it for .20 a can.

Find a complete list of Sunday insert coupons for past weeks here.

Walmart’s $20 Thanksgiving Meal with Trimmings!

Posted on Saturday, November 14th, 2009 at 1:34 pm

Can it get any better than this?  Walmart has officially announced their $20 Thanksgiving meal for 8 people.

Starting today, Walmart will have rollback items on select items, including 12 pound turkeys for $5.  Other turkeys will be on sale for .40 a pound.  Can you say “yesterday’s prices”?

The total plan for the $20 Thanksgiving meal includes the following:
One 12-pound Grade A turkey
Three 11 to 15.5-ounce cans Green Giant vegetables
Two 14-ounce cans Ocean Spray cranberry sauce
Three 6-ounce boxes of Stove Top stuffing
One 5-pound bag of red potatoes
One 12-count package of Sara Lee dinner rolls
One 22-ounce pumpkin roll cake

There will be a limit of two turkeys per customer.

Walmart is also featuring deals on Electronics.  THere ill be a 298 HP notebook available in store and on line.  There are also other cincredible electronic deals on HDTVs, Xbox, and a $148 Sony Blu-Ray Player.

Walmart wants to avoid the crush that happened last year at one Long Island store on Black Friday, when an employee was trampled by a stampeding crowd.  Like many retailers, they are not waiting for Black Friday this year to jump start the holiday shopping season.  The careful timing and planning means better savings for all, over a period of time.

And we haven’t even arrived at Black Friday yet.  These are just the sales up until Black Friday.

Coupon matchups for the Walmart Thanksgiving sale include these:

Stove Top Stuffing Mix
$1/2  exp 1/31/2010 (Winetag)
B4G1 up to $1.63 exp 5/1/2010 Tearpad

Sara Lee Buns
.55/1 (Insert, RP 10/25) Exp 12/11/2009

Our preview of this week’s Sunday insert coupons is here.  Plan all your holiday shoppingwith our lists!

A Very CVS Christmas

Posted on Thursday, November 12th, 2009 at 7:16 pm

I just got a really great “Christmas Gift” from CVS in the mail.  It’s a very slick catalog of Christmas gifts you can purchase at CVS – and it contains a few  ECB deals. It’s also got a coupon for $4 in Extra Care Bucks when you spend $20.  There is a lot of value you can get at CVS with sales, coupons, and ECBs.

I also received a coupon in the mail for 20% off tomorrow and Saturday. Now that is pretty sweet.  Lets see, 20% off, ECBS, coupons – well, it all adds up to some pretty great savings.

In the Christmas book, there are ECB deals on Axe products – buy 2 and get $2 ECBS.  Buy an Axe gift set for $9.99, get a $2 ECB.  My son loves this stuff, so guess what will be stuffing his stocking. Other  ECBs  in the book iinclude a $5 ECB when you buy one Regenetresse Thinning Hair Treatment System for $21.99 and a $2 ECB on Cetaphil.  There are some good prices on gift items if you can find them in your local store.  I especially like the leather Jacket for $19.99.  There’s a special section of gifts under $5 which is sure to solve your last minute gift needs, office and classroom parties, and stocking stuffers.

Here’s some good ECBs for next week:

$2 ECB when you buy  (2) General Mills cereal or cereal bars (2/$6)  Use the coupons that have been in the paper recently to receive extra savings. Limit 1.
$3 ECB when you buy $10 Hellman’s, Lipton, Ragu or Skippy.  Limit 1
$4 ECB wyb $12 Glade products.  Use Glade coupons for extra savings.  Limit 1
$10 ECB when you buy $20 Cold and Flu Remedies.  Limit 1.  Products include Dayquil, Nyquil, Vicks, Theraflu, Robitussin, Mucinex, and Boiron Homeopathic Cold or Flu Remedy. Use a lot of high value coupons from P&G Brandsaver, the CVS Flu Shot Book, and printables.

If you’ve been saving up ECBs, this book gives you some good ideas for gifts to buy with them while you are still earning more ECBs!
