There is a secret online sale that starts today at Boscovs. There are lots of discounts plus extra $$$ off in a number of different departments. You won’t see the final discounted prices until you put items into your shopping cart. You can take the items out if you decide not to purchase them.

While this is a bit of a pain, it might be worth it with some of the deals I have been seeing, especially on bedding.

I’ve been spotting a lot of great deals on furniture and home improvement products lately. Perhaps this is do to the economic downturn, or maybe it is just that all of the stores are getting ready for spring a little early. Whatever the reason is, it is nice to know that these opportunities are out there.

I think that Lowe’s is one of my favorite home improvement stores because of the customer service and the selection. We have so many home projects these days that we have been shopping around quite a bit. I found the following coupon codes and promotions for Lowes. Lowe’s also takes competitor coupons, so if you have any Home Depot coupons around, you should be able to use those as well.

Over the weekend, we treated the kids to a stop at McDonalds. I also wanted to check out the Valentine’s coupon books for myself. For $1 you can buy a coupon booklet filled with 12 different coupons for McDonalds food.

This is a great deal, even if you don’t plan on using them for class valentines or valentine goody bags. I picked up two of the booklets that I plan on keeping in the car. When we are out running errands, these coupons will be great to have for snacks or lunch when the kids start in with the “I’m hungry.” (They may say this 20 minutes after a big lunch at home.) It only takes one coupon to break even with the cost, and you have 12 coupons available!

For that $1 valentine coupon booklet, you get 12 free items! Here is the list:

3 free hamburgers

3 free small cones

3 free apple dippers or small fry

3 free apple juice or milk jug

You can only use one coupon per person per visit, and they have to be used by kids under 12 (In the past, no one at McDonalds has ever asked for ID). Because they are on sale now, you can’t use them until after Valentine’s Day on February 14th.

The official word from McDonalds is that the coupon booklets are available at participating locations. So if you don’t want to venture out and be disappointed, call first!

This week there are three inserts in the Sunday papers – a Smart Source (SS) a Red Plum (RP) and a Proctor and Gamble Brandsaver (PG). We will have our alphabetized list of grocery coupons up soon – we’ve had some tech difficulties with getting it posted, but will have it shortly. When we do, you will be able to search coupons by name or by insert type.

We’ve talked about the really great deals matching up coupons to CVS drugstore’s Extra Care Bucks (ECB) program, but we haven’t really discussed some of the other great ongoing deals out there in discount drug
world. This week there are some super match ups with coupons at Rite Aid. If you have a Rite Aid drugstore near you, it pays to check out their Single Check Rebate offers, published monthly, as well as their weekly deals.

In this week’s flyer, find two coupons for a free $25 gift card when you transfer your prescription to Rite Aid. Drugstores now are becoming very competitive for your pharmacy business, and they are willing to give you incentives to transfer your prescriptions. You’ll need to submit the coupon when the prescription is dropped off.

Free samples make it feel like a holiday. I have to tell you that the free samples have been a motivation for me just to get up the driveway. With all of the snow that we have been getting in our part of the country. getting to the mailbox had been a real effort!

For the first free sample, I found some tea. I am looking forward to trying this sample on a cold evening. It looks as though they have some interesting tea flavors. In order to get this sample, you have to sign up for the company’s catalog.

The next sample I have for you today is for shampoo and conditioner. These are my third favorite freebies (magazine subscriptions and laundry detergent are my first two) because they can be taken along when we go on vacation or stay over at the relatives. They are easy to pack, and we always can use shampoo! When I find myself with a lot of these samples, I simply place a plastic cup of them in the shower for easy use.

For this sample you will have to go through a signing up process where you will be asked questions about your household and the products you use.

Another type of sample that is great for travel is the toothpaste sample. We can take along several different types of toothpaste, and yet they will all fit flat in our travel case. You can usually get two or three uses out of each toothpaste sample, depending on how zealously you squeeze it.

If you have been a regular reader, you know that Denny’s gave away a free breakfast yesterday. Many other restaurants are offering free food deals as well. These deals are usually during weekdays and or mornings, times I suppose when business is a bit slower than usual. The restaurants get new customers in the door, and you get some free food.

McDonalds have two different free food deals going on right now. You can get a free coffee, either hot or iced, every morning between 5 am and 8 am for the entire month. This applies to the McCafe espresso-based drinks. Not all McDonald’s have them, so check first at your nearest locations.

If you aren’t a morning person, you can stop by your local McDonald’s every weekday afternoon between 2 pm and 5 pm to take advantage of a buy one get one free deal on drinks. The deal applies to any drinks, from those special coffees to sodas, etc.

When you head over to McDonald’s don’t forget to bring your child’s sippy cup. If you have ever seen a young child pour an entire drink in his lap as it spilled out of the straw, you know what I mean. Juicy Juice is offering a free sippy cup when you join the Juicy Juice community. You can also receive a free guide to your child’s nutrition.

When I first heard about Kohl’s cash, I didn’t know what the heck it was or how to use it. Now I am a little more informed, and I thought I would share what I know about it, including the restrictions.

Kohl’s cash can be a good deal if you take advantage of it. Basically, you have to open a Kohl’s credit account. You usually get an extra incentive for doing that. During Kohl’s Cash promotions you can earn coupons that are good on anything in the store. In other words, they can be used just as you would cash to purchase items. Kohl’s cash is only given out or earned during certain time periods.

When a promotion is going on, you can earn Kohl’s cash when you spend a certain amount. These are usually pretty generous deals, such as getting $10 Kohl’s Cash for every $50 you spend. Combine this with the great sales that Kohl’s often has, especially on clearance items, and you can really get a lot of merchandise for very little money.

The downside to Kohl’s Cash is that is it generally offered only for a limited time, so it is important to know when the promotion is going on and shop during that time. Once you get your Kohl’s Cash (usually delivered via e-mail), you have a short window to spend it, usually only about ten days. If you loose your Kohl’s Cash coupon or if it expires, you are pretty much out of luck.

Yesterday, I read an article online about how the way you dress can affect your success. While this seems obvious (no yoga pants when meeting a high-powered client), I didn’t realize how much well-tailored clothing can enhance a career, especially for men. It seems that a suit isn’t just a suit, and men are judged far more on the clothes they wear in the workplace than we might think.

The article went on to talk about how certain men are either consciously or unconsciously labeled according to the stuff that they wear and this may affect whether or not they are given special projects, whether or not they are seen as capable and whether or not they get ahead in the office. I was just floored at all of this new information!

Now, while I have gone through my husband’s closet and wrestled away the old paisley ties, it is obvious to me that he needs some better things to wear. Good clothing choices can be an investment that affects so much at work in an office, but at the same time we do have a limited budget. At least when you buy well-made classic clothes, they are sure to last for a long time, and that is a good thing. Still, I have to trade off time spent doing some research and figuring out what we should purchase in order to get the most we can for our money.

As I look around, I’ll be happy to share with you what I find, in case you are in the same situation.

One of the stores I was impressed with for men’s suits, shirts, ties, etc was Jos.A. Bank. There is a store at our local upscale mall, so we visited in person. Did you catch the Superbowl last night? As my husband always says, you really only have to watch the last few minutes of the game to get all of the excitement. If you did only watch the last few minutes, you might have missed a commercial for Denny’s. They are offering a great deal.

Tomorrow if you get to Denny’s restaurant anytime from 6 am until 2 pm, they will give you a free Grand Slam breakfast. That is a great deal for the whole family if you can make it in. Imagine a huge breakfast out for free! Danny’s also offers free dinner meals for kids on Tuesday nights. Make sure to check with your local Denny’s before you head out to make sure they are participating in the promotion.

Don’t worry if you can’t eat all of it at one sitting. You can take it home with you for leftovers. That reminds me of how great pancakes are for saving money. You can easily make up a batch of pancakes from scratch for less than the cost of box mixes, let alone cereal or other ready-made breakfast food. Pancakes can be frozen and then reheated individually in a microwave or toaster oven.

I confess that I have even used pancakes in an emergency to substitute for bread. My son loved taking a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on pancakes for lunch, and I didn’t have to run out to the store at the last minute or have him spend money on a school lunch.

If you don’t want to bother with the buttermilk or even mixing up flour, try this simple recipe from Betty Crocker that uses Bisquick. It will cost a little more than pancakes made completely from scratch, but it will still save you money. Go here for the recipe.
