More Fun at CVS

Posted on Friday, January 30th, 2009 at 7:28 pm

CVS has just released their February monthly Extra Care Bucks (ECB) list. There’s some really great match ups here for coupons.

They’ve had a lot of deals for toothpaste lately. This month, get $2 ECBs when you buy colgate total 7.6-11 oz. Use the .75 coupon that was in Smart Source 1/18, or the one for $1 that will appear in Sunday’s paper. And this week, when you buy $15 worth of colgate palmolive products, you get $5 ECBs. Since the Colgate total (6 oz) is 2 for $5 this week, you can use those coupons to buy the toothpaste on sale. Other products in this promotion are Colgate 2 in 2, Colgate 360 toothbrush, or any max fresh paste or brush, 2 for $5, Speedstick deodorant 2 for $5, Softsoap Elements liquid hand soap for $1, Palmolive dishwashing liquid for .97, Fabuloso or Murphy oil soap 2 for $5, Suavitel Fabric softener 2 for $7, and Soft Soap or Irish spring body wash 2 for $7 or 3 pk Irish Spring bar soap $2. Now here’s how this stacking up works:

Purchase $15 of the above listed products. YOur choice.

Use the following coupons on your selected purchases:
$.75 or $.75/2 Speed stick (SS 2/1)
$.75 or $1.00 any Colgate (SS 1/18, 2/1)
$.35/1 Softsoap (SS 2/1)
$.75 softsoap body wash (SS 2/1)
$1 Softsoap bodywash printable
$.50 Irish Spring 3pk (SS 2/1)
$.25 Pamolive (SS 2/1)

Depending on how many coupons you have, and how many of each product you buy, your savings will vary. Just imagine stocking up on Palmolive at that price – assuming the store does not have limits – and then deducting coupons – and then getting $5 back in ECBs.

Some other ECB deals this week are
$5 ECB when you buy 2 Theraflu or triaminic. You can use a $2 Theraflu printable, $1.50 Theraflu (SS 1/4), $1.50 Triaminic Printable, and $1 Triaminic (SS 1/04)

$1 ECB when you buy Welches grape juice 64 oz (limit one)
$2.49 ECB when you buy Excedrin 10 count vial. This makes it free.

NOw what do you do with those ECBs? You bring them back to CVS NEXT WEEK, pair up sales, coupons, and ECB offers – and pay for what you buy with ECBs. Then do the same thing again and again.

Meantime, you are accumulating quarterly ECBs on every item you purchase, 2% on your purchases minus coupons.

You cannot use ECBs to pay for prescriptions, tobacco, alcohol, prepaid cards, giftcards, stamps, lottery, or money orders. But you can use them to pay for just about everything else in the store.

Pizza Coupons and Other Restaurant Food Deals

Posted on Tuesday, January 27th, 2009 at 12:15 pm

Going out to eat can be expensive. Then again, it could be pretty cheap, too, if you know how to get the deals. Pizza coupons are always nice to get, and can you believe that there is the opportunity to get a large pizza for only 25 cents?

Pap John’s is featuring a promotion around football. You go to the site to register, and then if the opening kickoff of the “Big Game” results in a touchdown, you and anyone else who registered will receive a coupon for a large one-topping pizza for the price of 25 cents!

I know of two deals for Pizza Hut pizza, although I haven’t tried them myself. Since Pizza Hut tends tends to offer some coupons locally that don’t work elsewhere, I can’t guarantee that they will work for you, but it is worth trying. The first was advertised today as getting $5 off a large pizza when you ask for the “Real Deal” promotion. The other special is using code 02 when you order online to get a large 1-topping pizza for $10.99 and a second one for $9.99. www.pizzahut.com

Panera Bread is offering free coffee all day tomorrow, January 28th. They have some new flavors that they want you to try. You can use this link to see if there is a Panera Bread near you. I’m thinking of calling a few friends to meet me there for a catch up and the free coffee. By the way, I love their fresh grilled mozzarella panini. Free Coffee

Nathan’s Famous is offering hot dogs for only 5 cents! This is the original 1916 price. You have to buy one to get the second hot dog at that price and use a coupon. That isn’t a bad deal for lunch, though. Hot dogs for 5 cents

Happy eating!

What to Do If Your Store Won’t Accept Printable Coupons

Posted on Monday, January 26th, 2009 at 11:44 am

You print out your coupons and take them into Wal-mart, Target or your grocery store, where you do your shopping. The next thing you know, a cashier is telling you that your coupons can’t be used. What do you do?

Most stores today have policies saying that they will accept coupons printed on a home computer. Still, many shoppers run into problems trying to redeem their printable coupons at some stores. Here is some advice about what you can do if your store won’t accept printable coupons.

When shopping at a new location, it is helpful to first find out what the official policy of the store is, regarding printable coupons. You can usually find this information on the store’s website. Print out a copy of the policy and take it with you. This way, if your coupons are challenged, you can whip out the policy and show it to the cashier.

You can also go over to the customer service desk in the store and ask to see the company policy regarding printable coupons.

If you still can’t get a hold of the coupon policy, e-mail the customer service contact for the store and ask for a written statement of the store policy regarding printable coupons.

Using legitimate coupons from trusted sources, such as FreeCoupons.com will make it less likely that your coupons will be rejected. Legitimate coupons usually have a scan-able bar code and information on how the store can remit the coupon.

Until Tomorrow,

How to Save Money on Canned Goods

Posted on Sunday, January 25th, 2009 at 11:02 am

It used to be that buying canned goods was the cheapest way to go. These days, however, it is a mixed bag. Many brand name canned goods can be quite expensive. Still, canned goods can be convenient and are great for stockpiling in case of an emergency.

Because of those two factors, I make an effort to save on canned goods. Here is my best advice on how to save money on canned goods.

Most stores have promotions for canned goods or stock up sales a couple of times a year when they feature deals on a lot of their canned goods. Many stores are doing this right now, although some feature these canned goods promotions around the holidays. Stock up on your coupons and buy in quantity during this time for the best savings.

I generally stay away from buying soups if possible. They are getting quite expensive, and they are mostly water. Making soup at home is pretty easy and cost effective. If you still want to purchase canned soup, stick to the store brands which are much less money to purchase. This is especially true for soups that you using for cooking.

Look to your stores discount shelves. Many times you will find canned goods with slight dents or tears in their labels. Dented cans are usually fine, as long as they don’t bulge and are still sealed.

Many canned goods come in large family sized cans. Check the pricing, but this is generally a great way to go. If you can’t use up all of the product, simple freeze the unused portion for later.

Happy Shopping,

Freebies and Product Samples for 1/24/2009

Posted on Saturday, January 24th, 2009 at 11:25 am

One of the ways that we get to try out new products without the risk of buying something that will turn out to be a waste of money is by signing up with manufacturers and requesting free product samples, also known as freebies.

Some freebies really pay off because they can be full-sized products. Others are of a great size for keeping in a travel bag. Free product samples are also great to have to help save money. You would probably have to buy very few bottles of shampoo, for example, if you signed up for all of the free samples that are available.

Free Sample of Chocolate Turtle Chex Mix

Food is a favorite free sample of mine. Very often these products are the perfect size for throwing into a child’s lunch bag or in your purse or car in case of snack attacks. My family really enjoys the chocolate Chex cereal, so I am looking forward to this sample. I imagine the sweet and the salty tastes will combine nicely.

Free Sample of Crest Whitestrips Advanced Seal

Have you tried any of the strips that you apply to whiten your teeth? I have in the past, and while I like them, the main problem I have is that they don’t fit well on my bottom teeth, making leaving them on my teeth for the required time not too much fun. Crest has a new product that is supposed to do a better job at staying out and not moving around. I hope that their claims are true, because having white teeth is an inexpensive way to improve your appearance, at least I think so.

This sample is being offered by Wal-Mart, which has many good samples from time to time.

Four Places to Find Coupons at the Grocery Store

Posted on Wednesday, January 21st, 2009 at 11:36 am

Coupons can save you a lot of money at the grocery store. But did you know that you can find more coupons in the actual grocery store itself sometimes in surprising places? Here are four area of the grocery store where you can get even more coupons.

At the entrance

When you enter the grocery store, check the store flyer. Not only will it give you a list of sale items, but very often you will find coupons that will double or triple your manufacturer coupons or give you a discount on other products.

In the aisles

You may have heard of “blinkies.” These are coupons that are dispensed out of machines with blinking lights. They are usually placed near the products themselves for easy savings. Usually they cannot be doubled or tripled.

On the shelves

There are two places to find coupons on the shelves. The first is on the products themselves. These are coupons that can be peeled off and used right away (there may also be coupons in the packaging as well). So look around at various brands of your item when you shop.

You can also often find stray coupons just laying on the shelves. Very often fellow couponers will leave extra coupons or coupons for products they don’t need just laying on the shelves near the products. Call this ROAC (random acts of coupons).

At the register

The register can provide you with coupons in one of two ways. First, you can get coupons that print out at the register during checkout. Often these are for competing products from the ones you purchased, so it helps if you aren’t brand loyal.

Happy hunting!

Instead of little envelopes of shampoo and conditioner, these are nice travel-sized bottles. My little guy dumped a bit on the floor when I wasn’t looking (I guess he was attracted to the nice sent), but there is still plenty left for at least two or three uses.
